Nathalie Lahdenmäki

Finnish-French ceramist and designer Nathalie Lahdenmäki (born Lautenbacher) produces tabletop objects made of porcelain and earthenware. The limited production of her Helsinki based ceramics studio is completely handmade, from mixing the clay bodies till the finishing of the objects. Lahdenmäki also works as a freelance designer for the Finnish ceramics and glass industry, Iittala and Arabia factories. Since 2002 she has worked as a senior lecturer at the University of Art and Design, Helsinki.

"In my design, I pay much attention to the texture of the material and the balance of different colours and matt or shiny surfaces. The aesthetics and functionality of the object is important, but so is the feeling one gets when he takes a cup in his hands. Eating and drinking is soft luxury."
